Vanilla-Almond Sugar Cut-Out Cookies (Anne)

Many moons ago (we shall not talk age here) a friend of mine shared her recipe for cut out cookies with me. I never looked back :) Have fun! 3 cups of flour 2 tsp baking powder 1 cup salted butter 1 cup sugar 1 egg 3/4 tsp vanilla 1/2 tsp almond extract Cream butter and sugar. Add the egg, vanilla, and almond extract. Mix in flour and baking powder. Once you have a nice dough let it rest in the fridge for 30 minutes before rolling and cutting. You don't have too, but it does make rolling it out easier. Bake at 350 F (175 C) for about 13 minutes. I am lazy, so I bought those nice and easy icing pens for the kids. It was less than $4 for four small tubes in different colors (walmart). Win win in my books since it is a lot less messy than trying to make colorful icing with the kids. Here are some of the cookies my kiddos made this week: ...just you know... ignore the football team cookies. This household has not good taste!😡  ...

Spaghetti sauce- Crockpot (Anne)

The Crockpot is my best friend... 1 lb sausage meat 2 lb ground beef 1 cup red wine (or vegetable stock if you don't want wine) 1/2 cup water 2 large cans of tomatoes (or 1 large can of tomatoes and 1 jar of a tomato sauce you like) 3 tsp thyme, dried 3 tsp basil, dried 2 tbs ketchup 1 chopped onion 1 cup chopped vegetables (I will explain bellow) Brown the meats. If you don't you will have a 'nice' layer of fat swimming on top of your sauce. Add the other ingredients and cook low for 6 hours. Or more... the longer you cook the richer it will taste. Ok, the veg... I like making my kids wat vegetables at every meal and spaghetti with a side of veg is a hard sell. So I 'hide' as many vegetables as I can in the sauce. This time I used onion, peppers and celery, because that is what I had at home. My favorite things to add to spaghetti sauce though are eggplant and mushrooms. Both are vegetables kids don't usually go for but they are vegetable...
